Paragliding in Nepal

Paragliding is a relatively new adventure sport in Nepal, and is the simplest, safest and least expensive way of discovering the joys of flying alone experience the aerial views of the magnificent Himalayas. Sarangkot, at 1,592 m above Lakeside in Pokhara Valley, is the jumping off point for paragliders.

We take a 20 min jeep ride from Pokhara uphill to Sarangkot view point 2000ft above Lakeside. This is where we begin the unforgettable adventure. From here we can see three of the highest mountains in the world. Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, and Manaslu (all over 8000m).

Gliding is a weather depending sports and the flying season in Nepal is from November through February, the best months being November and December. The takes off point for these flights is from Sarankot (1592m.), which also offers prime views of Fewa lake and mountains at sunrise and sunset and the landing is by the Fewa lake. The observing glory of Annapurna range and beautiful landscape around Pokhara valley, virgin Mt; Fishtail (Machhapuchhre), Lamjung Himal, Annapaurna Himal, Himchuli, Fewa Lake, Rice field, Rivers and settlements are below giving you thrills with a great photographic opportunity.

Tandem Flight:

Tandem flying involves a passenger flying with a pilot. Both have separate harnesses that are attached to each other and the wing. Paragliding harnesses are built for comfort and safety; they feel more like an armchair. After take-off the passenger just sit back, relax and enjoys the unfolding magnificent sceneries. Because paragliders can foot launch and gently foot land again and are very portable we can take them anywhere and fly from most mountains in Nepal

Best Season for Flying Conditions

You can go paragliding in Pokhara year-round as long as it’s not raining and the thermals are active.

The peak season for bookings matches the normal tourist season in Nepal – September/October/November and February/March. The fall months are the clearest where thermals develop quickly with easy, high flying of up to 3000 m.

The best time for flying, however, might be if you catch a lucky window of clear skies during the monsoon season of July and August when the vegetation is lush and the rivers are thundering.
