Lukla to Everest Base Camp Trekking

The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most popular treks in the Everest region. It leads us from the lovely lower region high up to the rocky and icy area with the well known Everest Base Camp, from where Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay Sherpa started for the first ascent of the Mt. Everest.

The views are breathtaking. You will see all the great mountains of the Khumbu Himalayan range: Mt. Everest (8848m), Lhotse, Nuptse, Pumori, Changaste, Lingterin,  Ama Dablam,  Thamserku, Kantega, Kusum Khagaru, Kongde, Khumbila, Twache Peak,  Cholaste, Island Peak, Lobuche, Pokalde and Honku South Peak. Furthermore, the wildlife on this track is also impressive: from musk dears, leopards, jackals, mountain thars to birds such as the nepalese national bird, called Danphe (Himalayan monal). And last but not least you will get in touch with the Sherpa Culture, their buddhist philosophy and their customs.

Before starting the trek at Lukla, we fly for 30 mins from Kathmandu to  Lukla  Airport with its scaringly short runway. The trek follows the Dudh Kosi valley route with an ascent up to the Sherpa capital of Namche Bazaar. From there on, we walk along a high path, from where we have the first spectacular view of the Mt. Everest. We head for Tengboche Monastery, located on top of a mountain ridge and then we descend to the Imja Khola river. Afterwards, we continue to the villages of Pangboche and Pheriche until we arrive at the Khumbu Glacier. The trek through the glacier takes us first to Lobuche and then to Gorak Shep, where we finally reach our destination, the Everest Base Camp and the best view point Kala Patthar (5545m). During the return trek you will have enough time to enjoy and relax in the lush forested valleys and the interesting settlements. Finally we fly back from Lukla to Kathmandu.
